¨The Amazing Town of Yanque¨
I´d like to thank the wonderful Lonely Planet for being one of the most disappointing guidebooks. Not only are 90 percent of its prices for restuarants and hostels wrong, but thanks to it Brittany and I thought it would be fun to spend a day in the town of Yanque. Stupidest decision of our lives. Unless activities such as sitting in the Plaza staring at nothing going on interests you, there is nothing to do in Yanque. There is one restuarant. Which is closed. So we took the taxi back to Chivay. which at first looked like a shit town but then it only got better! We decided to walk the 7kms to Yanque to give ourselves something to do. After almost two hours of walking with my backpack I was very excited to see the town but as we got closer and all there was were run town mud houses the prospects looked slim. We did manage to find a decent clean room for 15soles but thats where the luck stopped. We started walking to where there were supposed to be hot springs and some ruins but we spotted the ruins on the top of the hill and I quickly decided that just wasnt going to happen. After plenty of nice ruins, little dinky ones just dont seem all that interesting and since the springs were nowhere in sight we went back to the hostel. After weighing our options of sitting in the Plaza staring at people, going to bed at 5 or counting the number of straw reed things on the ceiling, we got in the collectivo for Chivay and I just spent the last 30 minutes trying to upload this page.
Oh and...still not really sure where this supposed Canyon is yet...
I cant wait to get back to Arequipa.
