Agua issues
Peru has a major water problem and no one seems to care.
Yes there are cold showers, we understand that, I can even painfully accept that most of the time. Hot water in your shower is a blessing from the Inca gods. The real problem is the lack of water. Where does it all go? I don´t know, no one seems to know, but more importantly, no one seems to care.
It started in Taray when a pipe broke (or so they say) and we were without water for nearly 3 days. This didn´t seem to faze anyone, they just kinda laughed and joked about it. What´s so odd about having to go get buckets of water from the pool to flush the toliet? Everything! Specially with 4 girls in one room and some funky things going on that require water! I can live without the shower for a few days but water in the toliet and sink are kinda a necessity. Then there are the hours during the day in Cusco where there just won´t be water. Mysteriously it just disappears.
Then there are the people at hostals that just blatantly lie about having aguas calientes. If you don´t have hot water I don´t care, I´ll deal with it, just don´t get my hopes up and then leave me cussing in the freezing shower in the morning after waiting 10 minutes to see if it will warm up.
And the last water issue I had was our broken toliet in the hostal last night. It was completely rusted away at the bottom so that you couldnt put your entire weight on the toliet or it would lift off the ground and probably fall over all the way. That I could have dealt with, carefully but then I flushed it and it didn´t stop running and when I went back into the bathroom there was water all over the floor. So I went downstairs and told him ¨Hay un problema... So he looks at it and goes, ya don´t use it. There was one downstairs we could use but still, just not cool and he never brought anything to clean up the water like he said he would.
Ok thats my ranting for the day.
